GET TO KNOW US A LITTLE

Hi, I’m ANNA

When I was little, I invented a game called ‘Joyful Funness’. The premise was, quite simply, to spin around, alone or holding the hands of anyone else wanting to join, and just keep spinning until I or the group fell down, dizzy and unable to move for a moment as our equilibrium re-established what had just happened. Later in life I learned that game was, essentially, called ‘Being Drunk’, but that’s another story…

WHY DO WE STOP PLAYING?

Here’s the thing: I never quite understood why or when we, as adults, generally stop playing. What is that defining moment or rite of passage in which we collectively agree that simply playing is not productive or even more so, not necessary? Play has defined my life in every aspect, from raising my three children, enjoying my work – the absolute dullest settings needed it the most! – even as a manner of coping with grief, pain and getting through difficult days, months, years…the joy of play has consistently gotten me through it.
I have been in the fitness industry as a Health and Wellness Coordinator – training staff, implementing new and dynamic wellness programs – as well as a certified Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher, Group Fitness and Aquafitness Instructor, Pilates, TRX and Pre and Postnatal Specialist for the past fifteen years, and one thing has always struck me: Fitness should not be a chore, ever. A workout shouldn’t be work, it should be playful, fun, engaging, even a little silly…

AND THAT's WHERE I COME IN...

Having studied in the field of Psychology and the benefits of play in children, my goal is simply to inject a little more play into everything we do, and in particular into the way we use and see our bodies. Believe it or not, fitness isn’t just burpees and crushing workouts that leave you in agonizing pain…they can be, quite simply, play.
